About the Author
I am a 23-year-old college student recently graduated from UNC-Wilmington with degrees in Physics and Mathematics. I’ve always loved numbers and the sciences and it’s a pretty cool deal to be studying this stuff… even if the homework sucks and the hours are long. I began Ph.D. studies in Physics in the fall at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
I got married on July 11th, 2009 to my wife Martha, who is perfect for me in more ways than I care to detail here and, in reality, than I can ever know. She pushes me through my doubts and my fears and is always there for me, even when I am completely stressed out and think my latest problem is hopeless (I am a very dramatic person if you get to know me well). She more than puts up with my endless questioning of myself, my motives, God, the Bible, and science & brings a whole new way of seeing things to our relationship. In addition, she is very good looking.
I am not anti-social, but I get very nervous in crowds. I am particularly uncomfortable engaging in conversation with total strangers – I apologize if I have had one of these awkward encounters with you. I enjoy partaking in the Cult of Apple, owning a 15-inch MacBook Pro, but I am certainly neither the most-affected nor the least. I pronounce the word “often” with the consonant “t” playing a pivotal role – something that bothers my family to no end. I also love spelling words such as “honorable” in UK English (“honourable”). Radiohead saved my life musically and ruined it simultaneously; prior to them I had been mired in U2-rip-off pop bands and could listen to just about anything on the radio. Suffice it to say this is no longer the case.
I am a musician. I’ve been playing guitars for more than 10 years and am not nearly as proficient as I should be for having played that long. I’ve been programming and playing laptops, keyboards, and pianos for the better part of 3 years now. It’s a great changeup for me – it makes my mind work outside of the patterns I create for the guitar. I’ve had the awesome opportunity to play with many very talented musicians in my exceedingly short music career. I play guitars with Matt Blair, a singer/songwriter living in Wilmington, NC, and have tracked guitars for 3 of his records. I also had the opportunity to work with some good friends of mine in the band Aravis on a record, programming and playing pianos and keyboards. You can also find the record, Hello Someday, on iTunes.
I attended Port City Community Church in Wilmington, NC for the better part of 8 years, beginning as a freshman in high school. I have had the privilege of playing guitars for their Weekend Services for many years alongside some amazing musicians and good friends. I also played in the Overflow band every Tuesday night, which was a ridiculously cool place to create music. Overflow is also where I met Martha. : ) We have put out a couple of records over the past few years as well with the latest Snapshots EP released in the fall of 2009.
